hello,
can anyone tell me what the difference is between 285/70/17s and 33x12.50 R17's? on the tire site, the only differences that stand out to me are that the 33x12.50's width is larger by an inch, and the max load rating is about 6000 pounds less than the 285's - (2600 to 3195) first of all what is the max load rating? and secondly, which tire would be best for a 17x9 wheel? thanks!

285/70-R17 is 33x11.5x17 tire.
Every manufacture has its own size, but in general you can count as the above mentioned. My 285/70-R17 GoodYear MT/Rs are actually were 32.7x11.5 The wider tire - the wider rim, so for 17x9 rim 33x12.5 will be better. Therefore both tires can be fitted to either 17x8 or 17x9 rim.

33s in the size you listed also tend be a slightly bigger in diameter as well comapred to 285s. The load rating depends on what the manufacturer wanted to do.
